Blog Action Day (BAD ’08) talks about Poverty

Earlier today, I got an email from our b5media Technology Channel Editor, Jayvee, informing us about Blog Action Day ’08. He encouraged us to participate and register our blogs and contribute about this year’s theme  “POVERTY”. So, why not? I then registered OfficeTweaks.com and my personal blog JeromeLocson.com…

From August 15th to October 15th bloggers are asked to register to participate so we can track how many are involved, as well as their approximate audience size. On October 15th the bloggers post on the issue and/or donate their day’s ad revenue to a charity involved in that area. We ask bloggers to try to keep their posting related to their regular blog topic so that posts are individual, suited to the audience and look at the issue in many different lights.

The tasks is simple, just register your blog and you can either create a post, podcast or video in your blog about POVERTY. You can also help microfinance via Kiva for as low as $25 or just simply help promote Blog Action Day ’08.

GenSan to host 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit

After last year’s success of the 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit held in Davao City, here comes its 2nd year. Dubbed as MBS2, the 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit will be hosted by the “Tuna Capital of the Philippines”, General Santos City. With the organizing team led by Avel Manansala of Bariles Republic, they are set to bring Mindanawon bloggers together during this event.

NAME OF EVENT: The 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit (MBS 2)
THEME: Mindanawan: Paminawon Intawon. Blogging the Mindanao Consciousness
DATE: October 25, 2008, Saturday, during the GenSan E-Business Week of the DTI and the city government.

The venue was not yet posted but we will update you about it as soon as we have the information.

Of course, the Zamboanga Peninsula bloggers will be there to support this event. See yah!

Planning for the 1st Zamboanga Peninsula Bloggers Meetup

I was about to sleep last Wednesday and I just can’t. Early this week, I was thinking of organizing an event for bloggers here in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region. I was just inspired by the very active participation of the Davao bloggers over Mindanao Bloggers where they organized the 1st WordCamp Philippines, which I will fly to Manila next Friday to attend this event. I’m excited already.

Anyway, what I did next was created a group message over YM and email, a Friendster Bulletin, and posted an announcement over my Multiply account. After taking a short nap, I checked my inbox and glad some responded my invitation.  Thanks to all who responded.

After few days, now I have with me Ms. Yolynne Medina, Mr. RJ Ian Sevilla, Mr. Ryann Elumba, and Ms. Jessica Partosa to help us organize the event. Our tentative meeting will be Septermber 14 (Sunday evening). And for those who are interested in helping us out in planning, please drop us a comment or message. We will post more details about this upcoming event. Tentative schedule for the Zamboanga Peninsula Bloggers Meetup will be a day between last week of October to 1st week of November… Just keep posted. Thanks.
