About Me

Howdy! I’m Jerome Locson, 25 years old from Zamboanga City, Philippines. I am currently finishing my undergraduate degree (Computer Science) at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU). Yeah! I’m 25 but not yet done with my Bachelors degree. Well, it’s a very long story but I’ll share short.

It was year 2000 when I went to attend college in ADZU. My classmates then call me geek since they usually see me carry books of computers. Yup! I do carry them since I do not have frequent Internet access to aid me in my studies. I was teaching myself web developing, graphics designing and of course as required by my course, do serious programming. I learned to use C++ as my first language.

I never had a background with programming since I went to attend my high school in a public school. But was lucky enough that I was introduced to technology since. I learn to do document processing, presentations, and spreadsheets using MS Office. During my senior year (1999-2000), I was introduced to the World Wide Web (WWW), the Internet. Since then, I got addicted… with chatting, surfing, and just exploring the new world I know.

Year 2000, I am a freshman student in college, I was so excited but never imagined to get into the computer science field because I’m into natural sciences ( you know… like biology, chemistry, physics, etc.). I have no choice but take it because it was the only course (along with BS Education) that offers the government scholarship I applied. Having that scholarship grant which only pays 6K of my total tuition is not enough and I resorted to apply for a Student Assistant (SA) scholarship and I was assigned to the acquisition department of the ADZU College Library. Now, I have to render 3 hours of service daily to that office. But that was fine, just to have me attend college for free.. Heheh.

Continuing my exploration with the Web, I was so curious how it was made. With that curiosity sparked a new interest in me - Web Designing! That starts another roller-coaster journey in my life. I started teaching myself to do HTML at first. Like I don’t go home after school hours but drop by an Internet shop and spend around 8 hours or so (even until dawn) to do self-studying. It turned to an addiction which I cannot stop. I usually go home around 5am in the morning (imagine!). And sleeps around 6am til when I woke up.

I then gave up being a Student Assistant during the first semester, not only to meet my addiction with Web Designing but I can’t even attend my extracurricular activities at school. With that, I started to make absences. Some teachers dropped me from the class, and before it gets complicated, I decided for myself not to attend school anymore. That was a tough decision I made. Lucky enough I am equipped with a freelance job, web designing and programming.

I was then hired to do some offshore projects, also worked in an I.T. firm in Manila, I also worked in the local industry (I.T. specialists in a local gasoline station, a local web development firm, and even tutor some college students). It was then year 2006 when I decided to go back and finish my degree. It was a tough decision to make, but I know it will be worthy.

I am hoping to finish my degree this school year and looking forward to work abroad, then establish my own I.T. company if God wills.

As for now, I am a working student doing some I.T. Consultancy jobs, a Web Developer and a Professional Blogger (if I may call myself one). It is through God’s grace that I am able to earn and send me back to school.
