KONY 2012

I stayed at the office late today to finish something and while on Facebook break, I saw again this video which went viral a few days ago but wasn’t able to get a chance to view since it’s a bit long. While I was finishing my task, I loaded the video and watched it, finally.

I cried. The video depicts a compelling act by young people around the world making a difference in their own little way. I don’t know about Kony and about his crimes which landed him as #1 in the wanted list.

Kony 2012 is a campaign by Invisible Children which aims not to make him famous but make his crimes known to the world and have his capture and bring justice to his victims.

Watch the video to know more… you will surely join the cause. Share the video.

How To Be Alone

Found this video on Facebook shared by a friend. A poem written by Tanya Davis. Here’s the poem:

HOW TO BE ALONE by Tanya Davis

If you are at first lonely, be patient. If you’ve not been alone much, or if when you were, you weren’t okay with it, then just wait. You’ll find it’s fine to be alone once you’re embracing it.

We could start with the acceptable places, the bathroom, the coffee shop, the library. Where you can stall and read the paper, where you can get your caffeine fix and sit and stay there. Where you can browse the stacks and smell the books. You’re not supposed to talk much anyway so it’s safe there.

There’s also the gym. If you’re shy you could hang out with yourself in mirrors, you could put headphones in (guitar stroke).

And there’s public transportation, because we all gotta go places. Read more…

Jamie Oliver’s TED Award Speech on Food and Fighting Obesity

I’ve been a fan of this guy, really love his cooking shows. I stumbled this one while watching some videos on TED Talks Channel in YouTube. The video is basically his TED Award Speech and with a wish:

“I wish for your help to create a strong, sustainable movement to educate every child about food, inspire families to cook again and empower people everywhere to fight obesity.” – Jamie Oliver

His speech is moving and inspiring. I hope you will, too, feel what he is trying to deliver. Please re-share…

Eiga Sai -The Japanese Film Festival 2011

In celebration of the Philippines – Japan Friendship Month last July, a series of film screening was brought to key cities in the country – Manila, Cebu and Davao. The month long celebration kicked-off with a series of Japanese film screening also known as Eiga Sai which literally means in Japanese – “film festival”. Click here for the full Eiga Sai 2011 screening schedule.

This is my 2nd year to watch films from this event since I am in Cebu City. And since I am trying to learn the Japanese language and culture, this is a great venue to expose myself with it from the big screen.  The screening in Cebu was at the Ayala Center Cinema 4 which started last August 2 – August 7, 2011.

This year, I watched 3 films from the list which are: The Chef of South Polar, Villon’s Wife, and One Million Yen Girl. You’ll have comedy, drama, love story, and adventure when you watch these 3. It was entertaining and inspirational at the same time.

If you want to join Eiga Sai next year, the admission is free. You just have to be at the venue to assure that you’ll have a place to sit. And the films are subtitled in English.

Eiga Sai 2011 is brought to us by The Japan Foundation, Embassy of Japan Manila, Consular Office of Japan in Cebu, Japanese Association in Cebu, Inc., The Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Cebu, Inc. and Ayala Center Cebu.
