Seminar on Skill Standards for IT Professionals (ITSS)
I was invited by the Philippine National IT Standards (PhilNITS) Foundation to attend the Seminar on Skill Standards for IT Professionals (ITSS) last January 27, 2012 which was held at Parklane International Hotel in Cebu. The aim of the seminar was to provide a better understanding about the ITSS concept and IT human resource trends in the Philippines and other countries. The event was attended by local IT engineers, HR personnel and some from the academe.

The event was a joint cooperation of Japan Overseas Development Corporation (JODC) and Philippine Software Industry Association (PSiA), in collaboration with the Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA) and with the full support of the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan. Bridge Systems Engineer (PHBR-BSE) Training in Japan
Ten (10) Filipino IT Engineers (software and web developers/programmers) from different IT companies were sent to Japan last February 5, 2012 to participate the 2-week intensive Bridge Systems Engineer Training Program sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) through the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), Japan. The Bridge Systems Engineer (Bridge SE) program was participated by the Philippines and Vietnam.

I was lucky enough to be part of the group. The Bridge SE Training Program in Japan, which was held at the Yokohama Kenshu Center, was actually the Phase 2 of the said program. Phase 1 was held in Cebu and Manila last October 2011 through its partnered organization, the Philippine National IT Standards (PhilNITS) Foundation. During Phase 1, we were introduced to the concept of Bridge SE and then focused in learning the Basic Japanese Language (Nihongo) for 10 days. At the end of this phase, we were given final exam and then screened thoroughly by the AOTS in Japan for the 10 chosen IT Engineers to participate in Phase 2.
