Starting a Tech Business with Cebu Business Incubator in I.T.
It has been more than six months when I decided to go back in Cebu City after a short hiatus in my hometown in Zamboanga (although still did some home-based work). Working from home is okay but I find it difficult in terms of time management; I tend to procrastinate.
I made a very risky decision when I decided to move back to Cebu City and start a business with the help of Cebu Business Incubator in I.T. (CeBuinIT). Cebu InIT is a Technology Business Incubator made possible by UP Cebu College and Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Ariba Tech Solutions, my small business, is an I.T. solution provider focusing on web and mobile solutions for small to midsize businesses. Ariba Tech Solutions is categorized as a locator in the facility which is strategically located in University of the Philippines – Cebu, Gorordo Avenue, Lahug, Cebu City. It is near Ayala Center and Cebu I.T. Park.
With Cebu InIT, I was able to get a cheaper facility – a small room office. They also offer cubicle type units for those who intend to jumpstart with their tech business ideas. They also offer technical training and seminars. You can check their website for more information about the facilities and services they offer.
If you wish to get in touch with their marketing, please contact Jeff at +63 (32) 232 – 4995 or email him at jeffrey@cebuinit.org
You can also visit their official Facebook Page - CeBuinIT: DOST UP Cebu Technology Business Incubator for latest news and updates.

Talk on Database Basics and MySQL at Mapua Institute of Technology
I went to Manila to attend the DevOpsDays Manila 2011 organized by DevCon Philippines last December 2, 2011. And since it was a weekend, I re-booked my flight until Sunday evening to attend a couple of events more, maximizing my stay in Manila.
One of the event was a talk on an IT Seminar. I saw a status update from the DevCon Philippines Facebook page, few days ago before flying to Manila, calling for volunteer speakers for the IT Seminars in Mapua Institute of Technology (Makati) which I group of students organized for their school requirements. I contacted them and committed to share, I guess it’s my little way on giving back to the community.

I was suppose to talk about Java/Android but the organizers said that they already attended a seminar about it, and so I was re-assigned to discuss about Database Basics and MySQL. It was a refresher talk to most of them… and I hope they learned something new.

Thanks DevCon Philippines for the referral and IT students from Mapua for giving me the opportunity to share. Until next time!
Philippine Web Design Conference: form, function() & .class
After the Joomla! Web Development Training I conducted in Davao City, I flew to Manila for the weekend to attend the <form> function() & .class Philippine Web Design Conference last September 10-11, 2011 which was held at the Asian Insititute of Management, Makati City. The 2-day event was organized by the Philippine Web Designers Organization.
I was able to get an early-bird registration worth of Php 2,000.00 (which is Php 4,000.00 on regular rate).

There are 3-hour workshops and 1-hour plenary talks one after the other. Topics includes Designing, Branding, HTML5+CSS3, Starting Up a Business, Javascript, Mobile Web, and Usability. The speakers gave an insightful talks — kudos to all of them (you can refer to this link for the is of speakers). Read more…
Yet another Web Development Training with National Computer Center
I was again in Davao City last September 5 to 8, 2011 for another batch of the 4-day Interactive Web Development Training (Using Joomla! CMS) for e-LGUs with National Computer Center (NCC). That was my 3rd time to conduct the same training in Davao. Even though it was really a short notice on the schedule, I still said yes because I like sharing knowledge and helping local government units have their online presence and make it more interactive as possible.

Around 13 participants attended this batch and they are from different LGUs (Local Government Units) in Mindanao. Half the size compared to what I usually have from my previous trainings, which gave me enough time to address all their concerns.
It’s always been a pleasure doing this training and I’m glad that the participants learned something new, which is basically about the Joomla! CMS — on how to manage and customize it, from this short course.
