Fort San Pedro, Cebu City

I’m in Cebu City for 9 months now and I haven’t visited much yet of its many tourist destinations. Luckily, last week after the training at National Computer Center (NCC) – Region 7, new friends from Aklan (who attended the training I handled) granted to go with me inside the Fort San Pedro, which is just outside the NCC compound, near the Malacañang sa Sugbo and Plaza Independencia in Cebu City.

The Fort San Pedro (or Fuerza de San Pedro) is triangular in shape with three bastions — La Concepción (SW); Ignacio de Loyola (SE), and San Miguel (NE), one on each end. Made up of stones, the Fort served as watch tower and defense headquarter from invaders of the island. According to our young and friendly impromtu tour-guide, the bastions faces Cebu City, Mactan Island and Bohol.

During our visit, there were many Korean, European and local tourists. It’s nice to see how the local government preserves a national heritage and history.

If you wish to visit the place, you can ride a taxi or jeepney. Entrance to the Fort is Php 30.00, I guess that’s for maintaining the area.
