Yes. I am obliged to read, read and read. This is in preparation for my undergraduate degree requirement in Computer Science, my project/thesis.

I may say that my project is very ambitious but I believe that it’s viable. The idea actually came from one of the instructor in Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Computer Science Department. Mr. Dulaca, one of the best teacher I know, has huge ideas for IT project proposal and lucky enough to have one of his ideas. Mind you, he graduated in UP with degree in BS Math major in Computer Science, and went to UP Los Baños for his Master’s degree in Computer Science. Bravo! Hehehe.

The idea is about Kanji Character Recognition from images taken via mobile phones and automatically translates it to English. Seeing the huge foreign market in the travel industry, this mobile application can help out travelers visiting counties in Asia using Kanji. This application will serve as their personal pocket translator.

As of now, I am preparing my research proposal to be presented this August or September (I hope) so that I can start working with the application itself. It will comprise a client (mobile app) and a server that will handle the character recognition and translation.

Ambitious indeed! Hehhehe…. but I know “I am better than that.” — derived from “You’re better than that.” of Mr. Dulaca.
