I was about to sleep last Wednesday and I just can’t. Early this week, I was thinking of organizing an event for bloggers here in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region. I was just inspired by the very active participation of the Davao bloggers over Mindanao Bloggers where they organized the 1st WordCamp Philippines, which I will fly to Manila next Friday to attend this event. I’m excited already.
Anyway, what I did next was created a group message over YM and email, a Friendster Bulletin, and posted an announcement over my Multiply account. After taking a short nap, I checked my inbox and glad some responded my invitation. Thanks to all who responded.
After few days, now I have with me Ms. Yolynne Medina, Mr. RJ Ian Sevilla, Mr. Ryann Elumba, and Ms. Jessica Partosa to help us organize the event. Our tentative meeting will be Septermber 14 (Sunday evening). And for those who are interested in helping us out in planning, please drop us a comment or message. We will post more details about this upcoming event. Tentative schedule for the Zamboanga Peninsula Bloggers Meetup will be a day between last week of October to 1st week of November… Just keep posted. Thanks.

Woaah! Another great reason why I’m excited this month of September to come.
I am for one, a member of the ADZU CSITAO because I’m a BSCS student of course. I am greatful that the organizers prepared ample activities for students and faculty to enjoy this month-long event. Not to mention a very interesting posters for promotion. I just love the beautiful concept…
The College of Science and Information Technology Academic Organization (CSIT-AO) of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) is an umbrella organization that houses several student organizations under the college. The Ateneo Biological Society (ABS), Ateneo Informatics and Computing Guild (AICG), Ateneo - Engineering Society (ES), and the Math Circle (EmC2) are all part of the CSIT-AO.
There will be a number of activities which comprises of seminars and competitions. For complete details and lists of the activities, please visit http://csitao.multiply.com/ or see posters and print ads for details.
Yet another year for Ateneo de Zamboanga University to celebrate Social Involvement Month or SIMO ‘08 this September. It will be a month long event for social development. This year’s theme is dubbed as “Layag! Journeying towards Social Development” .
It showcases a series of activities geared towards exposing the community to social realities in the goal of inculcating in them the desire for selfless social involvement and service. For the whole month, usually September, alternative classes, concerts, exposure trips, education and information campaigns and seminars and fora, among others are conducted for the whole community. And, I’m in for the spelunking trip. Last year, I was to do this but wasn’t able to go since I woke up late because it was raining that Saturday. And I just hope I can make it this time. I have been facinated with caves but haven’t visited one yet and I just hope that this one will come to realization.
Like last year, the registration for SIMO ‘08 will be online via the MyADZU Portal. If you haven’t register yet, please follow the instructions as posted in the website. Just remember this following dates…
So, register now before you run out of slot coz they are limited. Hope all Ateneans will enjoy being with friends and classmates during this event. And, for sure I will enjoy spelunking and will finally see the formation of stalactites and stalagmites.

If you still don’t know, Philippines is the texting or SMS capital of the world as reported. Here’s a photo news by CNET News featuring “The Philippines as texting central“. Because of the low costing of SMS, no wonder Filipinos uses this service.
With this trend, innovative services via SMS is delivered to consumers for entertainment, business and other information-driven services. Even internet services can now be accessed via SMS. Updating your Plurk and Twitter timeline? You can do that with just an SMS away… that’s blogging instantly!
I was using GTalk to update my Twitter and was sad to know that they disabled their IM service via GTalk. So, I stopped updating my Twitter. Just yesterday, I tried Plurk — another micro-blogging service. It’s cool… just similar to Twitter and Pownce.

Micro-blogging service is becoming more popular. They are usually text updates, around 140 text, of any thoughts you want to share to your online community. They can be updated via email, SMS, from the web or 3rd party applications developed by some contributors. Also, common to all is that they offer widgets and tools that allow you to embed your micro-blog timeline updates. That’s why I have them in this blog site, a blog with micro-blogs.
Last Monday, August 18, 2008, was declared holiday here in the Philippines…. so as today, August 25, 2008. It was Ninoy Aquino Day and National Heroes Day respectively but these days where adjusted by the government and declared it holiday during the mentioned dates instead of its original — August 21,2008 (Ninoy Aquino Day) and August 31, 2008 (National Heroes Day). With National Heroes Day, it was always celebrated during the last Sunday of August. It’s just weird that holidays are adjusted… the main reason of Ms. Arroyo, the Philippine President, is that it would give Filipino people a longer weekend to spend with our families and perhaps that’s one good suggestion. On the other hand, the true spirit of the dedicated dates to celebrate it is disoriented. That’s what I see. That’s my personal point of view…
It was last year, if I remember it right, where she started to adjust National Holidays to either Friday or Monday of the week, whichever she prefers. Hehe.. Read the rest of this entry »
