Play Angry Birds now in Chrome and other browsers!

The popular mobile game, and recently on desktops, invaded  the conference yesterday during the 2nd day of Google I/O 2011. Many got excited as the creator, Peter Vesterbacka, CEO of Rovio, engaged the participants with the Angry Birds web-based version. Of course the demo was done using the Chrome browser, showcasing how fast is Chrome handling such interactive game. (I watched the I/O via online streaming of I/O 2011 Live.)

The Angry Birds web-based version can actually run in any browser that supports  OpenGL and Canvas 2D features like Chrome, the latest Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer 9.

The Google I/O 2011 Live Experience

Earlier this week was the most anticipated event by Google, the Google I/O 2011, which targets to bring developers around the world together and experience the latest technologies from Google. I was supposed to be there courtesy of Google Technology User Groups (GTUG) but visa not granted. Sigh.

The Google I/O 2011 Conference was held last May 10-11, 2011 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, USA. There is also an I/O Bootcamp for the newbie developers a day before.

Anyway, I still had the chance to monitor the event since Google I/O team had the event livestreamed online via Google I/O Live using YouTube live streaming feature from the comfort of my bedroom.

I was awake until 8AM in the morning since the streaming  starts around 12:30AM in the Philippines. Well, not complaining here because I am used to this schedule. I usually work at night. :D Read more…

Whois Tool: My First Google Chrome Extension

Finally, I was able to explore a little of the Google Chrome Extension development. Basically, if you know web development (HTML, JS, CSS, etc.) you’ll surely find it easy to do your own Chrome Extension.

The tool I created is a simple Whois tool. The extension directs you to the GoDaddy.com Whois page if you want to know the registry entry of the current page you’re viewing. So, if you’re using Google Chrome browser, download and try my simple tool. :)

For those who want to publish your Chrome Extension, you need to pay a one time Chrome Extensions Gallery Developer Registration Fee of $5.00 and after that you can publish any number of extensions.
